Recently I saw a tweet about Kylie Jenner‘s makeup routine having 37 different steps, not counting moisturizing and priming. I was like… hold up. How? Being a not only a licensed makeup artist, but also a makeup lover I can fathom using this number of steps to beat your face for a night on the town or a special event. Day-to-Day is a whole other story. I’m a tomboy and it usually takes me less than 15 steps to complete my go-to look. *Actually less than that since Alex from Eye Candy PGH hooked me up with some lash extensions- check out her work here.
So yeah; it takes Kylie 37 steps to do her makeup for a day of meetings. You can find the original video here, but I’m going to break the steps down for you below and, of course, show you my final result vs what I look like with my normal makeup routine.
Products and pricing down below, as well!
The Steps of Kylie Jenner’s Makeup Routine
When I watched the video and actually wrote it out, if you don’t want to read it all be sure to click the link and give it a watch. It’s pretty remarkable. She even makes a point to say that her and Kim don’t compete and have no animosity when it comes to their brands. uh huh, honey… sure.
Brows
Line your brow
Fill it in
Conceal under the brow and spread onto the lid
Blend that out with a sponge
Set with Powder
Eyeshadow – Kylie referred to this as a simple eye
Use a transition shade in your crease to “shape your eye”
Highlight under your brow arch, on your brow bone
Define your crease with a darker shade
Apply your lid color with your finger
Finally add a pop of color to your inner corner/tear duct area
Use a makeup wipe to get rid of any eye shadow fall out. This is also why Kylie does her eyes first. *in my opinion, it depends on the look and products being used
Foundation
Lather your face in so much foundation you’re actually soaked
Blend that with a sponge
Use a concealer brush to apply foundation above the brows (you’ll obviously want to avoid both your brows and your eyes when applying your foundation)
Concealer – Kylie uses 2 kinds. One pink, One beige.
Apply your first shade to your under-eye and chin
Place your second shade on top of the first
Blend out
Set with powder
Under your eye with smaller brush and loose powder
All over with powder brush and pressed powder
Contour with bronzer. Make a 3 & an E.
Bake with loose powder under your contour… AKA waste a ton of loose powder. I mean you need to pack that shit on there until you look like you have a bad tan line.
The end is in sight, guys… I promise
Lips – Kylie’s First Love
Line your lips… like the whole lip, over line it a bit too. PS Kylie can do this with her f*cking eyes closed. Bitch, bye.
Apply your lip shade of the day
Back to the eyes
Tightly shade under your eyes with a dark eyeshadow color
Drag the color from your inner corner/tear duct all the way down
Contour your nose “a little bit”
Blush – Kylie’s Favorite. She applies it literally everywhere: cheeks, nose, forehead, chin, earlobe… you get it
Wipe off your “bake” with a powder brush. Blend it well.
Mascara… I’m not going to ruin my lash extensions, but Kylie apparently doesn’t care.
Highlight
Cheekbones
Nose
Forehead
Blend it with your finger
Circle back to your lips and add some gloss
Gel your brows into place
Hit your face with more blush…? The logic is lost on me here
Setting Spray to top off your look and keep your hours of work in place
Products I Used:
I followed all the same steps as Kylie… like to a T. The total cost of all of these products is about $375.
Finally, I used Vaseline for gloss because I hate lip gloss and don’t own any… oops
Are you still with me or have you gone cross-eyed?
The Comparison: 8 Minutes vs. 45 Minutes
My Eight Minute Makeup Routine
Kylie Jenner’s makeup routine for everyday and meeting may be 37 steps long, but Ashlie Hipp’s is not. Especially in the summer, since I can’t stand to have more product on my face than I feel is necessary. God bless, your soul, Kylie. I just do not have it in me.
Products I Used:
This is also the order I used them in! The total cost of all of these products is about $200.
Balm Cosmetics Balm Shelter Tinted Moisturizer in the color Medium
All in all, there are some steps of Kylies routine I may be adding to mine. I can see where baking really does make your contour pop, and I am so here for that. Also, I should probably start doing something with my lips… maybe one day. This was such a fun post to do! I think I’ll be doing some comparisons to looks I find on YouTube more often… what do you think?

It’s not easy being a star and having cameras pointed at you all the time. I’m a firm believer in great brows and great skin. When you’ve got those two elements nailed a quick, simple makeup routine is all you need.
