Fight Dry Skin

Products, along with a solid skincare routine, are super important in keeping your skin moisturized and glowy all year round. Preventing dry skin in the winter is easy as long as you have the right products in your skin care collection. Think hydrating.

Here are my recommendations:

1. A gentle cleanser, like Pacifica’s Sea Foam face wash. Pacifica is a really dependable brand, I have yet to try a skin care product of theirs that I’m not a fan of. They are a cruelty-free, 100% vegan brand.

2. Invest in a Grade A moisturizer. The one I use is H2O+ Beauty Oasis. It’s an ultra hydrating cream, but’s it’s a “water-gel” as opposed to a heavy lotion, which I love. I used this in the morning and at night before my sleeping mask!

3. Being that your body, including your skin, repairs itself at night, it’s extra important to give it some added support. I’ve been using the Soo’AE Donkey Milk Sleeping Mask since I received the samples in my Ipsy bag a few months ago. Want to try a sample? Click here! Believe me when I say it’s the best? 4. Don’t neglect those lips! Get chapstick, several sticks so you’re never without one. My favorite brands are Carmex and Burt’s Bees. I appreciate that they don’t add any of the ingredients attributed to drying you out more, just to make more money.

Up Your Water Intake

Hydrating your body is the first step to hydrating your skin. All the moisturizers and serums on the market can’t help dull, dehydrated skin.

Try to consume 11-15 cups of water a day and limit your caffeine intake.

Skip the Matte Foundation

Your foundation could cause problems this winter if it’s a “matte” formula or made “for oily skin”. Foundations made to suppress the production of oil by your glands is only going to make your skin worse this winter. Preventing dry skin this winter could be as simple as switching up your foundation.

A few tips:

1. Trade in your matte foundation for a more hydrating one. I’ve been using TooFaced Born This Way in Almond as my winter shade and, sis, I can’t say enough great things. Above all, the shade range is heavenly.

2. Try skipping foundation all together. Substitute a good BB Cream or tinted moisturizer for heavy foundation and give your skin a well deserved break this season. I recommend Smashbox’s Camera Ready BB Cream and The Balm Cosmetic’s Balm Shelter tinted moisturizer.

Modify Your Shower Routine

This one is simple.

Take shorter, cooler showers and steer clear of baths… unless they’re moisturizing. Also, always moisturize after you bathe.

This one is hard for me, personally. I am an avid “self care bather”. I sit in the bath tub after a long day for sanity, and that bath is usually hot enough to burn the devil’s scales off. However, being that it’s winter and I don’t want my skin to turn to scales myself, I’ve been trying to limit it to 3 a week. As well as putting moisturizer on both before bed and when I wake up in the morning.

Get Yourself a Cool-air Humidifier
